Last year was a record-breaking one for the Scottish salmon industry but 2018 is looking less impressive if recent predictions are anything to go by.

Nevertheless, Julie Hesketh-Laird, the CEO of the Scottish Salmon Producers Organisation (SSPO) who took office in February, is optimistic for the long-term future of the industry and what lies in store.

In Scotland, the total production of Atlantic salmon during 2017 amounted to 189,707 metric tons, an increase of 26,890 metric tons or 16.5 percent on the 2016 total of 162,817 metric tons.
