With modern slavery and human trafficking still reportedly rife within the seafood industry, modern technology such as blockchain could be the key to ending these abuse, according to Alex Capri, a senior fellow at the National University of Singapore, writing in Forbes.

The recent Global Slavery Index report, found seafood companies are failing to prevent forced labor and outright slavery in their supply chains. Human traffickers across Southeast Asia continue to operate, mostly unhindered, with the support of unscrupulous middlemen, subcontractors and labor brokers.
