Surging inflation and record-low consumer confidence are casting a long shadow over seafood suppliers to the UK foodservice sector as summer draws to a close.

In addition to rising costs, labor shortages and political uncertainty are creating further economic strain on British consumers, and restaurant spending is expected to be among the casualties.

Inflation reached 9.4 percent in June, dragging consumer confidence to weaker levels than during the global banking crisis, the height of Brexit impacts, or the COVID-19 shutdown, according to UK trade association Seafish.
