Canada Fisheries Minister Joyce Murray has decided the fate of the remaining 79 federal salmon farm site licenses in British Columbia with tenures that were scheduled to expire on June 30.

On Wednesday, she announced she would approve a two-year renewal of the licenses outside of the Discovery Islands, and will "include stronger requirements for aquaculture facilities, including the implementation of standardized reporting requirements and sea lice management plans, as well as wild salmon monitoring."

"Today’s decision follows two years of engagement with partners and stakeholders on these new measures," she said.
