The Ecuadorian shrimp industry's post-pandemic growth recovery is being threatened by Russia's invasion of Ukraine, China's zero tolerance COVID-19 policy and US inflation, Jose Antonio Camposano, president of shrimp producers' trade body Camara Nacional de Aquacultura (CNA), said in an editorial posted on his LinkedIn page.
Although Ecuador's global shrimp exports were up 44 percent to 525 million pounds in the first quarter, the industry fears current global events may burst the bubble.
"Without doubt the Russian invasion of Ukraine is creating complications as much as in exports to those countries as the sudden increase in raw materials in this region," Camposano wrote.
