Land-based salmon farmer AquaBounty Technologies said Wednesday it has begun construction of its planned 10,000-metric-ton salmon farm in Pioneer, Ohio.

The genetically modified salmon producer expects the project cost to be in the range of $290 million (€267.9 million) to $320 million (€295.7 million), including a reserve for potential contingencies of $30 million (€27.7 million).

The company said it anticipates commercial stocking of salmon eggs to start in late 2023.
