Singapore-based land-based salmon company Singapore RAS has signed a letter of intent with Norwegian companies OFS Norge (OFS) and Onshore Technologies (ONTEC) for a basic design study.

The agreement opens the opportunity for strategic and financial cooperation on the project, as well as local aquaculture capacity building.

Singapore RAS is aiming to produce 1,000 metric tons of salmon by 2025 with potential to expand this to 3,000 metric tons in order to fulfill its strategic food sufficiency target.

Singapore imports more than 90 percent of its food but has a goal of increasing domestic food production to 30 percent by 2030.

Benchmark Genetics will supply eggs for the operation from its Icelandic facilities.
