Global tilapia production is forecast to grow 3.7 percent in 2022, breaking the 6 million- metric-ton barrier, according to the Global Seafood Alliance's (GSA) annual production survey.

Estimates put production 2.5 percent higher this year after a 1.2 percent increase in 2020.

Between 2010-2019 global production grew just under 6 percent.

"In pretty much all cases tilapia is becoming a pretty mature industry," said Rabobank Senior Analyst Gorjan Nikolik, who presented tilapia survey results during the 2021 virtual GOAL conference.
