A new land-based king salmon farming project in Chile led by former Marine Harvest (now Mowi) CEO Hans den Bieman is bringing its first fish to market, claiming it's the first time the species will be commercially farmed in recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS).

The company behind the project, Sealand Advanced Aquaculture, was established by den Bieman and partner Oscar Garate, a former industry analyst.

Sealand is marketing its fish to “selective bidders” under the brand Patagonia King Salmon.

Just 100 metric tons of fish will be available over the next 12 months, and the company only plans modest production levels of around 500 metric tons by 2024.
