Local customs authorities in Shanghai have informed Chinese importers about new requirements when importing fresh salmon through Pudong Airport in Shanghai, according to the Norwegian Food Safety Authority.

While the food safety authority has been unable to find public, written information on new requirements, "it appears" that certain labeling and packaging requirements for fresh salmon into Shanghai will come into force Sept. 10, said the authority.

The new rules require that fresh salmon be packed in an inner and an outer package, both of which must be labeled in English and Chinese.
