The chief executive of a group planning a land-based recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) salmon farm in rural Millinocket, Maine says the group has shifted its plans, and he puts the blame in part on the mistakes of the largest land-based producer in the world.

AJ Shapiro, CEO of Wyoming-based Aquabanq, said the company, which had planned to open a facility as early as this year and expand to 10,000 metric tons of capacity by 2025, "decided to take a detour" into shrimp after Norwegian land-based salmon farmers created a challenging atmosphere for the company's growth.
