A new report canvassing salmon farmers, First Nations and other stakeholders in British Columbia shows a complex web of concerns, frustrations and tension that will color the complex process of phasing out netpen salmon farming in British Columbia by 2025 -- a key element of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's Liberal Party platform.

In a report released quietly over the summer, Canada's Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) detailed its discussions with both industry and First Nations participants that led to the decision to end conventional salmon farming in the province -- a decision that will have massive financial consequences for salmon farmers Mowi, Grieg Seafood and Mitsubishi-owned Cermaq.
