Eduardo Lobo, president of Brazilian seafood processors association ABIPESCA blasted plant-based seafood products in a video posted online.
Lobo highlighted Brazil's status as a leading producer of proteins such as beef, pork and chicken as well as its fast growing aquaculture sector.
"Who wants to eat tomatoes should eat tomatoes, who wants to eat tofu should eat tofu, who wants to eat soy should eat soy? You can't call something by a name that it isn't," Lobo said.
The ABIPESCA boss, also a partner in the Prime Seafood business, was reacting to an article referring to tuna made from tomato.
