Nippon Suisan Kaisha (Nissui)'s coho salmon farm has been certified sustainable against the Aquaculture Stewardship Council label. Wholly-owned Yumigahama Fisheries in Sakaiminato City, Tottori Prefecture, said the certification of its Sakaiminato Sea Surface Farm and its processing factory in Sado City, Niigata Prefecture was the second case of a Japanese coho farm obtaining ASC certification.

The company made its first salmon harvest from the farms in the Spring of this year, with cherry salmon (Oncorhynchus masou) from its Sado farm further up the west coast made shortly after.
