The Kingfish Company’s wholly owned US subsidiary, Kingfish Maine, has secured its final critical permit, paving the way to for it to build its land-based aquaculture facility in Jonesport, Maine.

The Maine Department of Environmental Protection (MDEP) approved the Maine Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (MEPDES) permit for Kingfish Maine.

The MEPDES permit is the second of two critical permits required to build and operate its facility. The company obtained the first critical permit, a submerged land lease, during 2020.

The permit assesses the company's ability to maintain the water quality of the area based on the location of the discharge point and makeup of the effluent water.
