The United States and the European Union agreed to end a 17-year dispute over aircraft subsidies on Tuesday, lifting the threat of billions of dollars in punitive tariffs on goods exported from both sides of the Atlantic, including seafood.

The news will come as a relief to US seafood exporters who faced additional 25 percent duties on certain seafood products heading into the EU, including on some salmon products and scallops.

The main seafood products subject to additional tariffs were live freshwater fish, frozen Atlantic salmon, frozen salmon fillets, smoked salmon and frozen scallops.
