Salmon prices have risen to their highest level in years in the US market, driven by lower production in Chile, continued strong demand from retail and an uplift in foodservice business as the impact of COVID-19 vaccination programs take effect.

Market sources told IntraFish D-trim salmon fillets FOB Miami are selling for between $6.50-7.00 (€5.32-5.72) per pound as suppliers in some cases struggle to meet orders.

Prices have not been at these levels since massive algal bloom outbreaks in Chile in 2016 decimated production, and an outbreak of the ISA virus in 2007 led to several years of lower production.
