Chilean salmon prices dip on US market

Brazil and China, meanwhile, saw price increases for their supply.

Wholesale prices for D trim salmon shipped from Chile into the United States decreased by $0.05 (€0.04) in week six of 2019, to $5.21 (€4.60) per pound, according to DataSalmon. The wholesale price for head-on size 10-12 salmon going into the Brazilian market, however, was on the rise at $6.61 (€5.84) per kilo,up $0.50 (€0.44) from the week prior.

The average price for head-on salmon size 6 and above headed to China was $9.56 per kilo, up $0.07 from the price the week before.

The average price of Norwegian farmed salmon remained relatively flat in week six at NOK 54.51 (€5.56/$6.30), as Norwegian exporters grumbled about a challenging market.

For the US market, the DataSalmon Index is a weekly average price weight by volume for Fresh D Trim fillets FOB Miami (D-trim fillets represent around 70 percent of the supply of fresh fillets from Chile to the US market).

For the Brazilian market, it’s a weekly average price for head-on size 10-12 salmon FOB Puerto Montt (PMC), destined for Brazil, and for China the average prices are for head-on sizes 6 and above, CFR Shanghai.
