This summer's promotion of Alaska's Bristol Bay sockeye lifted sales for several US retailers, including HEB, New Seasons, QFC, Rosauers, and Wegmans.

Fishermen across Bristol Bay landed over 43 million sockeye salmon during this summer season, the second-largest harvest season ever.

The promotions, supported by the Bristol Bay Regional Seafood Development Association (BBRSDA), focused on fresh sockeye.

East Coast retailer Wegmans saw sockeye sales soar 18 percent overall, while Pacific Northwest grocer Rosauers saw sales climb by 80 percent compared to the year prior.

“This summer’s promotion was a huge success by any measure, and we’d love to partner with BBRSDA in the future,” said Mark Fromm, Wegmans seafood category merchant. “The program was well organized and supported, and we have plans to substantially grow our fresh sockeye salmon program with Bristol Bay sockeye salmon.”
