In a written statement, Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski has urged President Donald Trump to reach a trade policy agreement with China that protects the export market.

KTOO reports Murkowski and Alaska Congressman Don Young are asking the administration to ensure Alaska’s seafood industry is protected.

On Friday China announced it would impose tariffs of 25 percent on US seafood that includes Alaska salmon, pollock and groundfish starting July 6 in response to President Trump's proposed tariffs on Chinese goods.
