A judge in Calfornia has ordered the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to re-examine the environmental risks of allowing genetically modified salmon to be grown in the United States.

As part of the approval process that gave GM salmon producer AquaBounty the go-ahead to produce its AquAdvantage salmon -- designed to grow faster than normal farmed salmon -- the FDA assessed the likelihood that the engineered salmon would escape from activity and adversely affect normal salmon, including endangered wild species.
