A fishing area that spans Canada's northeast coast -- from Nuvanut to Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) -- has received Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification for Greenland halibut, the MSC announced Thursday.

Combined, these fisheries account for about 21,500 metric tons of Greenland halibut quota harvested by Canadian enterprises, including indigenous, inshore, mid-shore, and offshore fishers.

Primary markets for Greenland halibut are Europe and Asia.
