Strong demand for Cape hake and good prices continues, with fishing and processing giants investing in consolidation and efficiency on the back of healthy prospects for the resource.

This year has been good for landings, and companies expect to catch the full quota for the year. In addition, the industry has seen some acquisition activity both in Namibia and South Africa.

Namibia's Tunacor, which acquired the fishing business of Bidvest Namibia in August to diversify its offering and replicate its success with on-land hake processing in the horse mackerel business, is seeing strong prospects for the hake industry.
