Satellite maps target tuna

MORE than 150 vessels from ten countries are using SeaStar, Orbimage of America's service designed to guide fleets to tuna. SeaStar is now being used in tropical waters by tuna longliners as well as purse seiners. Interest has spread to pelagic trawlers, too. Orbimage produces Fish Finding Maps for locating sardine and mackerel in West African waters. The company has found significant interest from other fishing sectors in using data from Orbimage to find catching opportunities, including on pelagics in colder Atlantic waters.
