Japan's Fisheries Agency is calling for a suspension of some Pacific bluefin tuna fishing to avoid exceeding the yearly quota, reports NHK World Japan.

Agency officials recommended halting long-line and drift-net fishing for Pacific bluefin weighing 30 kilograms or more, saying tuna of this size caught by mistake should be released back into the sea.

Officials said the catch had reached 90 percent of the annual quota last Thursday, at 153.4 metric tons.
