All EU-owned fisheries landing Greenland halibut are now Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certified, with the latest being the German deep-sea fishery Doggerbank Seefischerei.

The fishery's two deep-sea trawlers -- with special rollers on the bottom ropes to reduce seabed contact -- catch Greenland halibut between June and December in the coastal waters of west Greenland.

The flatfish found in the North Atlantic is sold smoked in the German market.
