Canadian harvester and processor Ocean Choice International (OCI) said Thursday it is expanding its sales team in the European market to meet increased demand from the region.

The Newfoundland and Labrador company will hire a new general manager in the Netherlands to oversee the efforts.

Ocean Choice has hired global recruitment firm Seafood People to assist with the hire.

“The European market is a very important part of our business and has been for a long time. Over the last several years, we have seen an increase in demand for our wild-caught seafood in Europe,” said Martin Sullivan, CEO of Ocean Choice International.

The company also announced it added a new vessel to its fleet, the M/V Calvert.

The groundfish vessel will join an existing fleet of five offshore fishing vessels in June. The vessel will harvest yellowtail and redfish that will be sold to markets worldwide, including Europe.

The 74-meter Arctic class vessel boasts advanced technologies to maximize yield and quality, while reducing processing time to deliver market-ready products to customers around the world, according to the company.
