The 2019-2020 Bristol Bay red king crab total allowable catch (TAC) has been set at just below 3.8 million pounds, a 14 percent cut from last year.

Individual fishing quotas (IFQ) account for 3.4 million pounds of the allocation with 379,700 pounds set aside for community development quota.

The TAC was set at 4.3 million pounds for the 2018/2019 season, a 34 percent cut and appearing to underline authorities determination to protect stocks. Three years ago the quota was set at 8.5 million.

The fishing season will open on Oct. 15 at noon and remain open through 11:59 pm, Jan. 15, 2020.
