Alaska salmon fishermen still awaiting disaster relief funds

The $56 million fund will be released in July.

The US government will provide long overdue $56 million (€50 million) this July as disaster relief funds for Alaska fishermen's 2016 pink salmon run failure, reports Alaska Journal of Commerce.

Congress approved the fund in 2016, and the Alaska Department of Fish and Game and National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) finalized plans for payouts last August, however, federal agencies have been slow with paper work.

After missing a deadline earlier this month, NMFS confirmed the funds will be released on first of July.
