Germany's North Sea saithe trawl fishery re-certified to MSC standard
Fishery wins MSC approval for third time.
Germany's North Sea saithe trawl fishery re-certified has been re-certified to the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) standard for sustainable fisheries.
A 15 working day deadline for comment passed on 24 September 2018 with no objections.
The German North Sea saithe fishery was the first German fishery to receive MSC certification in 2008 and was re-certified in 2013.
Assessment of the fishery was undertaken by Edinburgh, Scotland-based Acoura, which wrote that it found no evidence of overfishing and that the fishery is compliant with International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) standards in response to earlier points of concern raised by the Helmholz Center for Ocean Research.
