Spanish bank Abanca, the largest shareholder in Nueva Pescanova with a 33 percent stake in the company, announced intentions to increase its ownership in the Spanish fishing and aquaculture giant, reports La Opinion de la Coruna.

Juan Carlos Escotet, president of Abanca, said the bank aims to stay as a shareholder of Nueva Pescanova in the long run during the presentation of the first half results.

Escotet added that the fishing sector is a “strategic business” in Galicia and that Abanca is paying attention to “any opportunity” that may arise to increase its stake in the company.
