About 20 percent of the global salmon industry is now sourcing soy protein concentrate (SPC) from producers who have expedited their deforestation cutoff date to 2020 to prevent a "gold rush" of companies converting forested land to soybean farms before the deadline.

Salmon farmers Grieg Seafood, Bremnes Seashore Leroy, Cermaq, SinkabergHansen and Norway Royal Salmon are among the companies pushing suppliers to dial back their changeover to deforestation-free soy earlier than the 2021 cutoff dates.
