Fishmeal sector ‘doesn’t have much to worry about'... yet
Fishmeal supply seems to have peaked again, and demand is steady.
Rabobank analyst Gorjan Nikolik said in the long term there will be demand for at least 500,000 metric tons of fishmeal even with changes to formulas and emerging alternatives.
So this is a very good basis for the sector, and there is not much to worry about, he said.

NRS starts work on its Iceland offshore project
Norway Royal Salmon's (NRS) Arctic Offshore Farming concept is coming to life three years after NRS acquired the Icelandic company.

Insurance giant: ‘Land-based is very much a loss business’
Land-based fish farming, or more generally speaking recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), are incredibly difficult to insure and “very much a loss business," according to Geir Myre, global head of aquaculture at insurance heavyweight AXA XL Catlin.
Accordng to him, RAS is less than 2 percent of premiums for AXA, but 5 percent of claims.

Day one of NASF 2019 kicks off
Welcome once again to the 14th North Atlantic Seafood Forum, the world’s largest seafood business conference. This year delegates will hear from 120 speakers in 12 major seminars spread over three days in total.
Topics at this year event range from the impact of climate change on global fisheries and aquaculture to the impact of digitalization in the seafood value chain.
The conference will look at how aquaculture can tackle challenges to meet growing world food demands; it will look at the potential impact Brexit will have on European fisheries and markets; and it will look at market consolidation in the white fish, pelagics and salmon sectors.
And as usual, the forum will also give various outlooks on seafood supplies, markets, and prices for salmon, white fish, pelagics and other species.
