Vannamei shrimp prices from all regions are at historically low levels, with all major producers harvesting big volumes and importers holding high levels of stock in storage.

Prices have been falling for about six weeks and are at a loss-making point for some sizes both from South American and Asian origins.

In Ecuador, the situation is “unsustainable,” said some producers who are expecting the market to self-regulate at some point and believe some small companies will have to go out of business.
