Salmones Camanchaca reported an "abrupt and sudden" massive salmon mortality event at its Pilpilehue center, Chiloe, on March 14, Chile’s National Service of Fisheries and Aquaculture (Sernapesca) said.

The company notified authorities that 123 metric tons of salmon were killed due to the presence of 250 cells per milliliter of Pseudochattonella cf verruculosa algae.

The event occurred the night prior to the notification, the note said.

Sernapesca officers arrived at the site and confirmed that the dead fish are being removed, and the inter-institutional regional committee of environmental contingencies has been informed.
