Chile’s salmon farming sector is in the midst of a unprecedented change. Recent consolidation has catapulted Chilean farming firm Agrosuper to the second largest salmon company in the world behind Marine Harvest.

Experts and analysts agree that further consolidation is coming.

To help you understand what the restructuring of Chile’s salmon industry means not only for Chile but for the global production and trade of farmed salmon, Ricardo Garcia, CEO of Camanchaca, one of Chile’s leading seafood companies, will join other salmon industry executives at the 2018 IntraFish Seafood Investor Forum in London on Sept. 13.

Camanchaca began operating in Chile in 1965, catching and processing shrimp and langostino lobsters. In 1980, a change in leadership resulted in a new strategy to diversify into other wild and farmed seafood species.

Camanchaca salmon farming operations are the world’s first to earn four stars for the Global Aquaculture Alliance’s (GAA) Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) sustainability certification.

Camanchaca is also a founding member of the Global Salmon Initiative (GSI), an alliance representing approximately 50 percent of the world’s farmed salmon production.

This initiative recognizes the role that salmon farming can play to satisfy the growing global demand for healthy proteins in a sustainable manner over the next few decades and has made significant progress on an industry level.

Garcia will provide keen insight into exactly where Chile’s salmon sector is headed and where investment opportunities exist, not only in salmon producing companies but within related industries such as fish feed, disease control and salmon farm design.
