The Norwegian government is considering establishing an independent body to determine standard pricing as a basis for a new ground rent tax on salmon farms, according to a press release from the government this morning.

The press release was sent out Friday morning during a meeting to discuss the tax. Attendees at the meeting included seafood companies, trade group Seafood Norway, Norwegian Finance Minister Trygve Slagsvold Vedum and Norway's Fisheries and Oceans Minister Bjornar Skjaeran.

"The principle that it is the real income that should be the basis for the ground rent tax will remain," the government said.
