Salmon giant Mowi responded to criticisms by the National Trust of Scotland (NTS) regarding its proposed salmon farm off the island of Canna, saying that the group's claims are "exaggerated," reports the Financial Times.

“We can demonstrate that the position they have taken at the moment is wrong, and it risks the credibility of a body like the NTS,” Ben Hadfield, managing director of Mowi Scotland told the FT. “It is not for the NTS to block that on the basis of exaggerated claims of damage to the environment.”

The NTS has owned the island since 1981. It has been its stance that the farm would generate too much waste.

“Basically, Mowi is talking rubbish,” said NTS Senior Nature Conservation Adviser Richard Luxmoore.
