Danish Environment Minister Lea Wermelin is proposing two new bills that would seek an end to the expansion of traditional netpen aquaculture. If approved, the new measures are expected to take effect in January.

"Our marine environment is under pressure, and I do not want more or larger aquaculture in Denmark," said Wermelin in a speech last year when she first set out to repeal laws that make it possible to expand or establish new aquaculture production.
