Shrimp farmers in Kendrapara, India, have been hit by a cyclone that wiped out many small-scale farms and workers who were dependent on the industry, reports New Indian Express.

“Around 7,000 hectares of fish ponds in the coastal pockets has been damaged in the cyclone as per the preliminary survey. The government has announced Rs 12,200 (€154.95/$173.65) compensation per hectare for fish farmers,” said Pratap Ranjan Rout, joint director of fisheries.
