Chinese oyster farmer Green Life Foods, and white shrimp farmer Pengcheng Marine Products Company obtained Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) certification, the ASC announced during the China Seafood Expo.

Pengcheng Marine Products Company is the first white shrimp farmer in the country to obtain certification.

With these new certificate holders there are 10 Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) certified farms in China, producing a total 40,000 metric tons of farmed fish a year.

“These 10 ASC-certified Chinese farms have set an example of environmental and social responsibility for both Chinese and global aquaculture,” said Contessa Kellogg-Winters, ASC communications director. “China’s aquaculture production accounts for more than two thirds of the world’s total production. Promoting responsible aquaculture in China will have a profound impact upon the future of the global aquaculture industry.”
