The recently formed Chile Salmon Council has appointed economist Salvador Valdes Prieto as a director.

Valdes Prieto, who gained a doctorate of economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), has experience in the financial, dairy, steel and energy industries.

Through the World Bank, he advised the governments of China, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Colombia, Peru, Bolivia and others on pension policies.

Valdes Prieto was director of the asset management group Larrain Vial for 11 years and director of BancoEstado for four years.
