Canada-based Enterra Feed Corporation has nabbed approval from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) to sell its black soldier fly larvae as a salmonids feed ingredient, the company said Wednesday.

With the approval, which allows the feed to be used for species such as salmon, trout and arctic char, the Vancouver company will be the first to sell insect-based feed ingredients to Canadian fish farmers, it said.

"Aquaculture feed producers have been keenly awaiting this approval and we look forward to supplying their needs immediately," said Enterra Chief Technology Oficer Andrew Vickerson.
