Danish feed giant Biomar on Thursday temporarily closed its head office in Denmark in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.
However, all production and supply chain activities continue as normal, and all corporate functions are maintained through home office facilities.
The situation caused by the COVID-19 is in general complicating business life and Biomar is taking measures to mitigate risks and protect the health and well-being of our employees as well as to maintain daily production and feed deliveries to our customers," Biomar VP People, Purpose and Communication Sif Rishoej told IntraFish.
The decision is in line with advice from the Danish government urging private sector employees to work from home as the country is in lockdown for the next two weeks.
This raises a big question mark for the seafood sector, the majority of whose cargo is carried in the hold of passenger planes.
"However, Biomar will not be impacted significantly by the US-travel ban as we do not have any factory operations or critical supply chain activities in the country," Rishoej said.
Seafood trade shows continue to be cancelled, and with the Boston seafood show postponed. Diversified Communications, which owns the show, rescheduled its Brussels seafood show as well.
