Spring Genetics, Benchmark’s tilapia genetics business, has signed a five-year broodstock agreement with African tilapia producer Lake Harvest Group.
The African continent -- mostly Egypt -- is currently producing around 950,000 metric tons of tilapia per year, growing around 5 percent over the last three years, but the regions south of the Sahara also hold "huge potential" to increase production, according to Lake Harvest Technical Director Alfred Kadzomba.
