The Norwegian government is investigating the possible introduction of new "rental tax" on salmon farmers, to be brought into force in 2020.

Representatives from an opposition party in Norway asked the government to review and submit proposals for a production tax, but the government thinks a profit-based rent tax will be a better system, according to a press release sent Friday.

The government has so far said that the tax will be adapted to the particular type of production and will be determined by gross income after production costs.
