VIDEO: Inside Grieg Newfoundland's ambitious salmon farming project

The massive proposed project is slated to be one of the most modern worldwide.

Grieg Newfoundland's ambitious Placentia Bay salmon farm cleared landmark hurdles recently that pave the way for the project to launch.

Grieg, who is taking on the project in a joint venture with Ocean Choice International (OCI), has plans to produce at least 30,000 metric tons of salmon per year by 2025.

The project will have one of the world's largest hatcheries, and 11 large locations with the capacity of up to 2 million fish each.

The nursery is planned to span across 28,000 square meters and produce up to 8 million post smolt, or 4,000 metric tons per year.

IntraFish spoke with project manager Thomas Grieg at the 2018 Iceland Seafood Investor Forum.
