With a growing number of publicly listed seafood companies reporting upticks in their market valuations over the past year, the CEOs running the show are also seeing a bump in their salary packets every year.

UK-based Nomad Foods CEO Stefan Descheemaeker pocketed the highest base salary in 2019 -- about $983,000 (€907,000). However, the salary does not include other benefits such as share options, which bumps the executive up even higher.

Canadian frozen seafood giant High Liner Foods CEO Rod Hepponstall earned the fattest total salary packet in 2019 worth $2.6 million (€2.4 million), a vote of confidence in his ability to turn the group around.

The highest paid CEO in the salmon farming industry, Alf-Helge Aarskog, recently stepped down from his position at Mowi, but not before taking home a total of $2.1 million (€1.9 million) in 2019.

IntraFish also drilled down the companies' 2019 shareholder total return -- which basically translates to the share price movement, dividends and share buybacks -- giving an idea of how each stock performed throughout the year.

Land-based salmon farmer Atlantic Sapphire shareholders saw the highest return of about 87 percent, followed by Bakkafrost, Grieg and Norway Royal Salmon.
