The recent move by the Australian arm of European discount retailer Aldi to sign up to the Sustainable Fisheries' Partnership Ocean Disclosure Project is in "direct response" to customer demand for more sustainable products, Fresh Seafood Buying Director Matthew Atley told IntraFish.

"Customers want more than value for money when they go into the supermarket," said Atley, saying that increasingly, purchase decisions by consumers are based on trust in their supermarket that the product has been responsibly sourced.
