US retailer Walmart announced a pilot project involving the use of blockchain technology for end-to-end traceability for shrimp sourced from Andhra Pradesh, India, to its warehouse club Sam's Club, reported Live Mint.

Walmart is using IBM's Food Trust technology, in cooperation with Indian seafood processor Sandhya Aqua and US supplier Stanley Pearlman Enterprises.

The retailer has been working with IBM on the use of blockchain since 2017.

This project is the first use of blockchain technology by an Indian farmer to an overseas retailer, according to the publication.
